City of Kawartha Lakes

The City of Kawartha Lakes is a “community of communities” and strives to offer services that strengthen and enhance the quality of life for all residents. The City of Kawartha Lakes is an active and flourishing community where parks, recreation and culture services are an essential component of the City’s commitment to offering a preferred place to live, visit, work, and play.

Parks, recreation and culture services deliver benefits that enhance the quality of life in Kawartha Lakes and reflect the unique interests of local communities and the diverse range of needs and lifestyles. With the active and informed involvement of the community, the municipality and other public and private interests provide services that contribute to a healthy community, a vibrant culture, a strong economy and sustainable environment.

The name "Kawartha" comes from the area's First Nation Peoples, in whose language it means "land of shining waters". The moment you see the sun dancing off the gentle ripples of the water, you'll see for yourself. Located just over one hour northeast of Toronto, the City of Kawartha Lakes is linked by the Trent-Severn Waterway. Our communities are nestled amongst beautiful lakes, winding rivers, scenic farmland and pristine wilderness. With over 250 lakes and rivers throughout vast stretches of panoramic beauty, Kawartha Lakes offers a wealth of leisure activities year round.

A full range of local employment agencies currently serve the needs of the communities within the City of Kawartha Lakes. These agencies have formed a Community Employment Resource Partnership (CERP) and they, as a group, are committed to serving all members of the community. CERP City of Kawartha Lakes members recognize that effective service partnerships improve outcomes for individuals, agencies and the community as a whole. We also believe that this partnership complements local strategic economic development initiatives. Furthermore, this commitment to the establishment and maintenance of a network of community service agencies ensures co-ordinated and co-operative service delivery throughout the City.

The strength of these relationships creates a positive effect on the community as we are positioned to jointly respond to changing labour market and economic forces through our innovative and results-oriented employment programs.
